Wishing to do what is right, especially to do one’s work or duty well and thoroughly.
1 Timothy 4
16 Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
I believe that we live each day wishing to do what is right. As believers, we do not want to, purposely, do what is not right. Our conscious guides us through each circumstance presented to us. It helps us to discern right from wrong, reason what is good, and act accordingly.
It is our living example that others observe. Yes, our words are important. We need to be careful of what we say and how we live. It is how God uses us to spread the Gospel among others.
Discern Right from Wrong
Our conscious is our daily guide. It is the Holy Spirit speaking to us and helping us understand the difference between good and evil, right and wrong, godly and ungodly. It helps us see with our heart what we may not see with our eyes. It speaks to us in the quiet of our mind so that we may follow God’s word and example.
Reason What is Good
It is a fact of life that we may reason why something is good for us. We use our knowledge and facts to make that decision. However, when our conscious Spirit speaks to us, it creates no doubt of what is good. It does not allow for misconception. It provides a clear and concise answer.
After discerning right from wrong and reasoning what is good, we then must act accordingly. We must use our best judgment to do what is right. It is this act that others will see and witness. In other words, we must not only witness to others with words, but also with our daily behavior.
We all know that as Christians we are under scrutiny. We hear the rumors and whispers of what this one or that one did. Others judge us. Because of our Christianity and our profession of faith, we are expected to follow in God’s example. We are expected to always do the right thing, act the right way, and say the right words.
As 1 Timothy 4:16 states, we must persevere because by doing so, not only does it save us, it saves those around us as well.
